JOLIET – State Senator Rachel Ventura announced two locations in the 43rd District have been selected to receive state grant funding to install new electric vehicle fast-charging stations, helping expand Illinois’ EV charging network, make cleaner transportation more accessible, and reduce dependence on volatile global oil markets.
The grant awards will support the installation of four-port Level 3 DC fast chargers at the Fairfield Inn in Bolingbrook and Autosales on Route 52 in Joliet in District 43.
"As more Illinoisans choose electric vehicles, we need to ensure our charging infrastructure keeps pace," said Ventura (D-Joliet). "These investments make it easier for residents and visitors to charge their vehicles quickly and conveniently while supporting local businesses, strengthening our transportation network, and giving families more options as gas prices continue to fluctuate."
Growing instability in oil-producing regions, including the recent conflict involving Iran, has once again highlighted how global events can quickly drive up gasoline prices and impact household budgets. Expanding access to electric vehicles and reliable charging infrastructure helps provide consumers with alternatives that are less vulnerable to international energy disruptions.
"Investing in electric vehicle infrastructure is also an investment in our response to the climate crisis," Ventura said. "Transportation is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions, and expanding access to clean transportation helps reduce pollution, improve air quality, and build a more resilient energy future for Illinois."
Level 3 DC fast chargers can provide significantly faster charging than standard public chargers, helping reduce charging times for drivers traveling throughout the region.
The grants are part of the Illinois Department of Transportation's ongoing efforts to expand the state's electric vehicle charging network and support the transition to cleaner transportation options.
"Building out a reliable charging network strengthens our energy independence and gives Illinois families more choices," said Ventura. "I'm excited to see Bolingbrook and Joliet continue to play a role in Illinois' clean energy economy while providing practical benefits for drivers today and helping protect future generations from the growing impacts of climate change."
