JOLIET– State Senator Rachel Ventura secured $390,000 to boost local tourism in the 43rd District through the Route 66 Grant Program.

“Tourism is an essential part of our community as it supports our small businesses, enhances our workforce and boosts our local economy,” said Ventura (D-Joliet). “Supporting and securing grants such as these will continue to ensure Route 66 travelers will be able to enjoy all it has to offer and learn more about its history and significance.”

Administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, a total of $6.3 million was awarded to 36 grantees through the Route 66 Grant Program, Tourism Attractions Grant Program and Tourism Private Sector Grant Program.

The Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau received $390,000 for site improvements across three locations in the 43rd District: the Jacob Henry Mansion Estate and the Route 66 Park in Joliet, and Two-Cell Jail and the Riviera Roadhouse located in Gardner. Funds will also cover costs associated with additional projects and participation in the IPW Tradeshow in Chicago to further the Heritage Corridor’s impact on the local community.
